Standardized Movement Screen

Let’s start with WHAT a standardized movement screen is.

A standardized movement screen means that I run each and every client through a movement screen regardless of where your pain is, what your imaging has shown, and what you have been diagnosed with.

If you come to me for neck pain, you bet we will be looking at your toe extension. Knee pain? Yeah, we will still be looking at shoulder movement.

Now we can attack the question of “why”.

Because the body works a unit! The term “kinetic chain” or “fascial sling” or “posterior chain” is all the same thing. Try the activity below for a better understanding!

ACTIVITY:

Sitting on the floor, legs stretched out forward, point your foot and bring your straight leg upward. Now, do it again except I want you to flex your ankle to bring your toes toward your face.

The latter was easier, wasn’t it? Ankle positioning helps hip action!

This is exactly why I practice a holistic approach. The saying “where you think it is, it ain’t” weighs heavily on bodily mechanics and is crucial to finding the root cause of your issue. My goal with Movementality is to treat the root cause of the issue to create sustainable results.

The holistic approach also encompasses other bodily systems including the lymphatic, visceral, emotional, social, and nervous system. The analogy that we are cars with ‘parts’ to replace does not take into account all other bodily systems as mentioned above.

From your first appointment with me, you will understand that I treat each individual who walks into my office as a person with an issue. Not an issue themselves.

Have any questions? Give me a call or send me an email for a consultation on how I can help you move forward!
