What is an Athletic Trainer?

Right? I mean, who really knows who we are, and what we do?

An athletic trainer holds the credentials ATC. Our education ranges from a bachelors degree through a PhD. Most programs now are being transitioned from BS to MS degrees with the option of pursuing your DAT and PhD.

Traditionally, you see athletic trainers working with athletic teams from high school all the way up to the professional level.

While the name seems self explanatory, it is often misleading about the range of skills that we as athletic trainers posses.

Athletic trainers are taught injury prevention, injury evaluation, rehabilitation, modalities such as electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, medication application, massage, and strength and conditioning.

We are quite literally, the jack of all trades.

Now, the way in which I practice athletic training is a perfect combination of what was listed above and more. I have taken many continuing education courses since graduation and have redefined my concept of pain and how the body works as a whole being - rather than some mechanical machine.

What I offer at Movementality is a perfect combination of massage therapy, physical therapy, and personal training. My hands on techniques provide input to the brain to change the output (pain) via hands on techniques or one of my tools such as IASTM, flossing, or cupping. The result of pain relief is the main reason individuals seek me out in the first place. Next, I combine rehabilitative exercises with strength and conditioning to create long lasting changes within your tissues. Along this journey you will learn about your pain and movement to the point where you will become sustainable without me.

It is my goal that each and every client who see’s me wins. It is important to me that the relationship I foster with my clients is one of a coach and player, rather than a healer. This is because I can coach you to move better, but I cannot do it for you. The ‘win’ is yours - you did it, I just helped along the way. The win is different for everyone. A win to an athlete may be returning to competition, a win for someone else may be returning to dance and being able to dance in a showcase, and for someone else it may just be taking a walk with a loved one.

Movementality caters to you - the individual. Your needs, your limitations, your pain, your dedication is how we get you back into motion and living a fulfilled life.
